Neurological Manifastation in 10 Cases of Nasopharyngeal Tumors


Abstract
Nasopharyilgeal tumors are more prevalent among Asians according to statistics. Patients often showparalysis of cranial nerves as an initial symptoms. Int his paper 10 histologically proven cases of nasopharyngeal tumors arc reported and the neurological symptoms are analysed. The abducens, glossopharyllgeal, vagus, trigeminal, and oculomotol nerves were frequntly involved in this series.
The importance of differential diagnosis, especiallyat an early stage of brain tumors such as acousticneurinoma and Gasserian ganglion tuimor is stressed. A basal view skull X-ray, palpation of ceryical Iymphnodes as well as examination of the nasopharynx were found to be valuable diagnostic methods.
